LAMP install (DocumentRoot on Windows)

basically, I have a LAMP installation (using VirtualBox) on a Debian Install. The DocumentRoot is a symbolic link to a networked computer that is windows (XP Pro).

It works fine serving up pages, but if I want to write to a directory (that is on the windows machine), I get a permission denied error.

How do I give it permission to allow php/apache to write to the windows folder? I have turned off simple file sharing, and under Security, for "Everyone" gave Full Control for everything. I even added full control/etc for all Group or user names for the folders. Not sure where to go from here?

I have tried, from the debian install, to chmod the directory to 777 (chmod 777 <foldername>) but it doesnt seem to have permissions to change the permissions to that. I am able to create files within the folders, if I su into root.

Windows has a very weird way of doing permissions. What OS?

hmm, a LAMP on windows huh? thats different. Cool choice for windows! Vbox with Lamp, gotta love that!!!

you cant chmod windows servers usually, i dont even know if its possible, but it didnt hurt to try.

Did you think about setting something in the $PATH on the windows system?

can you try relative linking instead of absolute? try them both, see if you get farther with one or the other. If you have already tried this did you say you tried full control for users such as "Network", "Authenticated Users", and set it to "Apply to" "This Folder, Subfolders, and files", and "Replace All Child Object permissions", ten apply so it can write them on down the chain? Thats in security tab, advanced, 'change permissions', 'add'.

what are you using to write the files, fopen() and fwrite()?

I use a free version of VMWare Server or their VM Player with the free LAMP stack virtual appliance (a preconfigured VM).
