IIS 6.0 SIte Hosting/MX Record Question

Hello. I am hosting a site on my server for someone who has a domain set up elsewhere. Any emails that I send to them since I did this are not deliverable. Is the problem on my end or on theirs? Do I have to do something with my mx records?

Thanks~

I'm not sure what you mean by "hosting a site for someone who has a domain set up elsewhere". Do you mean that someone else is managing the DNS records for you? If so make sure that the MX record properly points to the proper mail server. If you are also hosting the mail server you might want to try and telnet to your mail server from ourside your network to make sure everything is set up correctly, just type telnet in command prompt then type:
Code:
o 0.0.0.0 25
Change 0.0.0.0 to your IP address. This will confirm that your mail server is set up properly.

I think you answered my question. The mail server is on their network and the web server is on mine. So what I need to do is to change the mx record in IIS to point to the ip address for the mail server, correct?

Yes, although do you actually make DNS changes in IIS? I'm not sure on that, if you host the DNS records for the web site I assumed you had to use the DNS snap-in under administrative tools.

Bobba Buoy agrees:
