META Tags? Still Important?

I have been creating a number of sites just using title pages and i never used meta tags such as keywords and description. i now realised that someone advised that many pages goes into similar ones shown by google.

so, do i need to use meta tags? is not using meta tags hurt my se rankings?

I use them so that the little blurb you get with some search engines shows up as the page information, rather than the contents of the page. I've seen quite a few sites that don't have <meta> information and what comes up on the search engines is the first links on that particular page and maybe some out of context information. I'd like to know what kind of a page I'm looking at, you see.

Yep this is true . I used to design pages without meta tags , it used to display links , and content . Not very attractive if you dont know what the sites about .

You should use meta description. This meta tag is shown in search engine snippets. Also this tag help search engines to determine what your page is about. If search engine doesn't find meta description tag it uses pieces of page content. Sometimes it looks a little bit ugly and there is no sense in such pieces of texts.

Keyword meta is no longer useful but description Meta can assist you in acheiving high conversion rate because most of search engines uses description to create snippet of their search engine results. Thus if you can create an attractive meta description then it can improve chances of click.

I have to agree with the rest.

I look at it this way: It doesn't hurt! It doesn't cost me more than a few minutes of my time and it can make things look neater and more detail orientated. And that makes you look even better, too
