Close up the spacing a bit and make sure that the "Upcoming Releases" section doesn't fall below the rest of the page and it'll look okay.
I've moved this over to the review section for you, but you probably won't get too much of a review because you don't have either code or content for us to really review your site.

If you're a gamer, you will know what you want from the site yourself. if you don't, look around other gaming sites / forums and see what makes them good or bad. Don't necessarily copy them, but definitely look at them, and analyse things a little more than going there for reviews.
The one thing I find with most gaming sites is clutter. To have a quality of information, they cram information everywhere on a screen, and they always seem to use blacks and greys, which I don't think is necessarily the best way to go;

with the exception of;
http://www.eurogamer.net - which is white and blue, but is still cluttered.

looks like it will be a nice site... except for one thing the "Flash news box". Im not the biggest fan of flash and its Accessibility but thats just me. Overall looks like it will be a good one.

There's only so many combinations of the boxes he can have.. if he is trying to provide all that information. But I would say it's sufficiently different.
I think the biggest challenge for a site like this is always going to be content.. most of these big sites have professional journalists, they can get exclusives and stuff! But, doesn't mean it shouldn't be attempted, definitely worth making the site.
