ok i have just got my website up and running www.thearticlepad.com
but im a total beginner at bring traffic
please can someone give me some pointers

Ya I would say SEO is the main thing you can do. At first I got most of my traffic from the forum that I was on all the time, and was related to my site. But now that the stuff I did on SEO has kicked in...I get 60% of my hits from google! That is 125 in a week from google, and my site is 2 months old. PM me if you want help with SEO...its a long haul.

try this:
1. use the TITLE attribute inside your IMG tags for images
2. get as many inbound links as possible from others who have content similar to yours
3. use PRWeb.com to create a press release
4. create a syndication feed and newsletter and
5. submit your site to search engines.

There are many methods to bring traffic to your site. Like posting about your site in different forums, blogging , article writing etc.
Try to join some social networking site like eZdia, Facebook etc which is a good and an easy way to generate traffic .
Submit your site to different search engines like google , eZdia ,yahoo etc , which brings traffic from search engines
