Hello people,
This might be a touchy subject Our children _ how far is too far?
I know they have censorship on tv like Rated M
and website have adult verify (yet some just give choice to enter or leave)
and I also know there are children 15 or younger that have their own credit cards.
I heard from a child who was 10 saying he has seen X-rated stuff on the internet.
and his parents doesn't mind saying, "he is at that courious age"
and also have heard of children under 18 undressing on cams and Im's to there friends.
Yet i also heard of people monitoring there children to keep them like the olden days (no comps, cell phones etc.)
we all want to protect our children from evil preditors that can do them harm.
but how far is too far?
Commercials preditorize children with toys games movies etc.
the internet gives them the oppertunity,
some parents look away while other parent go to the extreeme.
I've notice also that children have more knowledge about certain things that I never knew at that their age ( seem more adult like).
Is it our culture? is it because the way we was raised?
Over the generations we notice children are being raised with a lack of what the previous generation was taught ,
like when I was younger spanking was the go and now spanking is considered abuse.
Along time ago the subject sex was hush hush now it is a common word used.
looking at our child bearing history what is our future going to be like for our future and decendent children?

I don't have a problem with my kids knowing more than I did at that age, so long as it's the right information. Street knowledge isn't worth a whole lot, never was. Maybe I'm lucky, but mine don't think too much of porn sites or porn in general. None of their friends do, either. Or at least, not that the friends are advertising. They'd rather talk to real people then get involved in cybersex or 'just looking'. I don't think too many of them are overly concerned about sexuality, either. They're 'friends first'.

And not too long before the Victorian/Puritanical morals were around, people were fairly open about the subject...

I think that it is better for kids to get the knowledge from parents and educators trained in teaching the subject than 'finding out for themselves'...
And it is important not to be outrageous in pointing out the negatives of casual sex or promiscuity - yes, they can be serious, but believe me - if you start out making ridiculous claims (touching hands gives you cooties - okay, a bit extreme, but fairly similar to what one parent I know once taught their kids), then when they realise that that was false they'll start to question all of your other information (this is true in any number of things - including the negatives of alcohol or drug abuse... which is why i never had a problem with a teen having a drink - but in the right circumstances and never to excess).
