There is an unplugged hole in IE where people could skim your info as you type/send it.
This is why the American DOHS has recommended using a non-M$ broswer.

That bug should have already been patched. And having an to note: 0.9 Netscape is also based on this source code just minor changes. What gets me the most is that NS and Mozilla patch the bug in a full download rather than a incremental patching system.

None of these arguements have really convinced me that IE is so bad - although I do use FF
I'm positive if FireFox was as popular as internet explorer it would have just as many - if not more problems from spyware and virus etc.
Hackers arn't going to design a virus/spyware for a minority browser if it is just as easy to make one for a more popular browser. As soon as firefox gets out of the "minority" area i expect to see lots of viruses and evil third party software.
Personaly I like IE better but use FF because it's not subject to third party software as much - but every couple of days I have to start up IE and use it to access some sites that FF can't do.

Why don't you donate $10 to firefox? They are getting their place in the market just by you using it.

Why Internet Explorer is version 6+:
Microsoft simply prints out a huge number of low quality versions of Internet Explorer. Just look at the Credits. As with many of the company's products, Internet Explorer started 10+ years ago and is now filled with patches all over and tape which is tearing apart.

Erikina:
why does internet explorer take so long to load?
Why is internet explorer 75MB?
Firefox is 30% leaner browser, and it has tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, tons of managers...
This comes from http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1622629,00.asp
the Internet Explorer browser, is full of holes and is essentially a bunch of cobbled-together old code. Here's an interesting exercise for you: Open Internet Explorer. Go to Help, then About, and you'll see that Microsoft still acknowledges that Internet Explorer is the old Spyglass browser based on Mosaic. This was thrown together years ago. Then look at the copyright notice. It ends in 2001. Unless I'm mistaken, that means that there has been no real update since then, just patches. To get a bigger laugh, click on Acknowledgements and see how long you can endure the laundry list of people who worked on the code. It's as if the entire state of Washington did some coding.
Firefox loads pages twice as fast as internet explorer on my 3mbps cable connection.
Internet Explorer was made with a collection of programs. I count 7 in the about.
Versions of Mozilla get leaner and leaner,
"Size and performance have improved dramatically with this release. When compared to Mozilla 1.6, Mozilla 1.7 is 7% faster at startup, is 8% faster to open a window, has 9% faster page loading, and is 5% smaller in binary size."
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozi...EADME.html#new
and is that true for Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer was 828KB download a few years ago!
http://www.skyzyx.com/downloads/
Every time Internet Explorer gets bigger, obviously there are more errors in the code.

juparis, I think you shouldn't ask which browser is better, I think you should try out browsers yourself. There are people like me who just couldn't live without Opera, and who think Firefox doesn't even come close. Then there are those who think the exact opposite.
It depends on your needs which browser suits you better, Firefox or Opera. It's true that Opera is a paid browser and the free version has a Google text ad, but you shouldn't let only that make your decision. I'd suggest that you download Opera and use it for a month or so, and then use Firefox. Then decide which one you liked more. You should also use tutorials to make sure you find out about all features in the browsers; look through the Opera and Mozilla websites, you'll find some there.
I like Opera mostly because I find it so simple to use. The installer comes with everything that you could imagine of; the browser itself, a mail client, and an IRC client. I don't have need for the mail client so I have never used it, but the IRC client is very nice. Opera is also smaller and faster. The installer file is incredibly small, and Opera starts up and runs much smoother than Firefox on my computer.
In Firefox, I don't like the way you need to get so many extensions to get more functionality. Opera has all functions built in it, just install it and you're ready. Extensions also make Firefox slower, at least on slower computers like mine.
Some of Opera's features are tabbed browsing, popup blocking, mouse gestures, page zoom, integrated google search, skinning with color schemes, fast forward, sessions, small screen rendering, support for WAP, lots of panels, many rendering modes, quick preferences, reopen closed pages, search from address field, quick personal information inserting, hotclick, automatic reload, "delete private data" dialog, cookie manager, the wand with master password, user agent spoofing, and a lot more.
so, go ahead and try both browsers, then decide which one you like more.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I did.. Now, to read these posts...
Thanks for the info, HIQ. I asked which is better to get people's opinions; I want the biased info! Eventually I will try out each and every browser, but I like to learn on forums like this first.
Seems like nobody want's to stick up for Netscape... And IE comes in second to FF! Didn't see that coming...
I agree with Erikina on the 'popular' issue of IE vs FF in the bugs area... I'm still not sure whether or not to go with nilsmo. Trying to attack IE rather than support a different broswer... Still, the info is making IE look worse and worse. I may have to kill my dear ol' browsing pal..

You have to remember that there are other advantages to firefox besides security.
The browsing is awesome. Tabs are incredible, I couldn't live without them.

I bet this won't be taken seriously, but...
Note that this is just my opinion; feel free to disagree, but don't become enraged.

One problem I have with today's society; too impatient. Everything has to be super fast, now, Now, NOW! Nobody has any time to wait a few extra seconds. Just look out onto the roads. Everyone does at least 5-10 mph over the speed limit (at least in the US). Drivers like myself get criticized for obeying the law. People drive through red lights, pass people without warning, and will honk at you if you come to a full stop at a STOP sign. Every product has to be super fast and on the go. Why can't people just organize themselves to be on time?
Okay, there may be no point in waiting a few extra seconds for internet browsing, but why must everything be NOW? Even Sesame Street for kids is notorious for producing impatient children. Why? Every 30 seconds, something new and 'exciting' pops up on the TV. Kids get use to being impatient and may never turn back. Give anyone a slow connection and he'll complain. Give him Road Runner and he'll complain it's not DSL. Give him Internet Explorer, and he'll complain it's not Firefox...
All these bugs--all these errors! Fact though they be, only those against IE will actually find them. I have never had any of the acclaimed problems I've read here. Most of the time, viruses and other spyware were downloaded at the user's own fault and stupidity (no offense to anyone).
I have to cut this short, but I just wanted to voice my opinion.
(By the way, Josh; I realize that there are other features, but everyone's mentioning this tabbing thing. I'm not a big fan of it; it annoys me)

Juparis,
I was an IE stalwart - I acknowledged that there were problems with it, but I kept to it because it was what is there by default and I couldn't be bothered to change.
I finally downloaded FireFox and installed it, and never looked back.
The tab system is great - it is faster, and you're like me and browsing through a large number of sites at once, this is a great timesaver.

okay Horus, most browsers have tabbed browsing (IE hasn't got it, maybe some more...). Honestly said, I hate FF's tabbed browsing after using Opera's. I know it's a personal preferance, but that's how I feel.
