Hi guys,
Out of the following,which forum software is most popular and what features makes it popular?
1.vBulletin
2.SMF
3.Invision Power Board
4.phpBB


Apart from above, are there any other good forum softwares?

If you don't mind paying vBulletin is by far the best, I dont think anybody can dispute that. But as far as free I am now using SMF and so far I love it. phpBB is nice but it seems to be attacked by hackers the most often. I would personally stay away from it if I were you. I've never used invision board so I can't really comment on it.

Pretty much. But the same thing can be said about all the other forum software mentioned including SMF or phpBB.

Invision Powerboard is not free and is similar to v bulletin.

InvisionFree (also known as IF) is the free one you guys are thinking of (that and the million other free ones)

phpBB2 is your best bet for learning (IMO), it does not need linux, it has the largest database of add-ons and because of its already long lifetime, it has a massive and helpful user-base in its support forums.

Another reason to use phpBB2 is it will allow you to get to know the community.
If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : create a forum

Most of the larger website promotion forums use vBulletin... Including HTML forums.

Well, vBulletin is the best regarding features, but IPB has a great look so I like it better and I'm more used to Invision software. Plus, its cheaper!

I agree, but I do not how about addons, because looks like vbulletin have more addons.
But i am not sure about it.
