Which language to use?

Hi there guys, I need to add a login/signup element to a website I'm designing, and I'm looking for general help.

The website is written in Dreamweaver with HTML if that makes a difference.

Which is the best language server side to use to achieve this? Or is it a case of they all do the job, and it's personal preference which one you use? Any other related information would be great too, thanks guys.

It's ultimately up to you as to which you're more comfortable and familiar with. You could achieve this with PHP and MySQL. There's even a nice tutorial on it from w3schools.com.

That assumes your server has MySQL and PHP installed (which while it can be installed on Windows servers, it's best suited for Linux).

PHP with MySQL works quite well, but since you are using Adobe Dreamweaver, it would probably be easier if you used Adobe ColdFusion as your server side language.

The only thing to be careful with is you need your webserver to support this language. Since Adobe charges for people to put this on their server, not everyone is going to have it.

It will however, integrate well with Dreamweaver.

AFAIK - DreamWeaver has started including a lot of support for PHP/MySQL development...

personally - i don't go near HTML editors - i work with PHP development environments, and create the HTML/CSS by hand after getting the graphical layout down by someone in PhotoShop

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately my server doesn't support ColdFusion, so it's MySQL/ PHP for me.
