Anyone see that yahoo uses google's search now? Isn't that weird? Isn't Yahoo like a million times bigger than google? I bet that most people never even heard of google before! Is google that good? And HOW does Yahoo use their search? don't they have their own search engine? Who's paying who for this? Yahoo or Google? I just don't get it.

Hi Pop,

While I'm not sure on all of the details with Yahoo and Google, I do know that Yahoo will be using Google's search to SUPPLIMENT their own web directory search. It is not a replacement. I'm not sure who's being paid by who for this, but my guess is that google would be getting paiid, unless it is a partnership to gain leverage. Has anyone else heard any news regarding this?

as far as i know, yahoo have basically switched from using inktomi to using google to supplement their listings.
basically there were and are 2 strands to the listings: the human selected directory (harder to get into) and the spidered remainder (easy to get into). when you search using the search box at yahoo rather than looking through the categories, you often get a bit of both in the results. if the sites in results have the familiar category>subcategory etc text above them, it's a link from the human controlled directory and if it doesn't, it just means the site is in the other bit.

at least that is the way it worked when it was yahoo and inktomi - the deal with google may differ in some ways.

as for google itself - i am a big fan. i use it all the time and find that it delivers fewer and more relevant results - the technology behind it returns results using a different method to many other search engines apparently and in my opinion, the google way is better

Yup, Yahoo! uses Google to supplement its searches, but Google is really a much better search engine, though its new(quite).

Jason,

I hate to think what the person who found that out was actually looking for!

I'd suggest you start up on a little light reading:

http://123webmaster.com/Tutorials/SitePromotion.html
http://www.123webmaster.com/Articles...Your_Site.html
http://www.123webmaster.com/Articles...ngTraffic.html
http://www.123webmaster.com/Articles/Article_Yahoo.html

Then hit the search engines, and directories for submissions:

You might also want to check out the other promotion resources listed at 123webmaster:
http://123webmaster.com/Site_Promotion/

Also, mever under estimate the power of a good link trade with a site that has similar content as yours.
