How do you get your site visitors? - HTML Forums

I was wondering how you folks went about getting visitors to your websites? Do you buy traffic from places like Google AdWords or try getting organic traffic? What about link trades and exchanges? Have you or are you currently trading links with other site owners to boost your own traffic levels?

Do things like banner/button exchanges still work or do you think they are pointless using these days?

What about buying banner or button ad spots, do you think these are a good way to generate site visitors and if so, how do you judge where to pay for placements?

Those of you with an affiliate publisher program, do you use different methods of getting traffic to those than you do your regular websites?

Time was that the only way to get traffic to your website on a dime was to link trade, and maybe some very low cost ppc campaigns. I still the idea of link trading, but only with other sites with a very similar topic, but the ppc market has gotten rather flooded and is pretty hard to get cheap traffic that way these days. The best way to get traffic these days, ironically, is simply to build good content for your website - basically information that users are actually interested in reading and would want to come back to get more of the same. Google has modified their algorithm so much in the last several years, that they now favor good content, and they can tell what content is good. If the content is original and not posted on other sites, then it gets bonus points. If users stay on the site for a while before leaving - bonus points (google has ways of telling how long users are on sites now if ya believe it). So be passionate about what you put on your website. if you are sincere in your content, and you post it often, traffic will come to you at no cost, and you may even get some one-way inbound links if your content is good enough. However, don't hesitate to contact those related websites for traffic exchanges as well.

Some do backlinks by forums, blogs and social networking. They also do affiliate marketing and email marketing. So many strategy but the always useful are the first 3. forums, blog and social networking.

There is no way to guarantee top rankings on Google - unless you are picking out some extremely obscure search terms...

and what's the point of being #1 for a search term that nobody uses

Submit articles to sites that would contain the same subject that your site deals in. If you sell car parts write press releases and articles about cars and car parts.

Attach your sites description and services at the end of the article as well as the link.

Every traffic that goes to the site could potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well. This works most when both sites are in the same product niche.
