I have advertised on a large forums recently and so far I havn't had much luck with the traffic at all. Nevermind. With advertising and earning online, you have to take risks to succeed.

It's highly effective to leave links to your site on the forum pages, once they grow you'll be lucky to get lots of PR2-6 links.

Postings in Forum - this is not SPAM.
If people want to reveal to the targets audiences about their favour, then they posting information at the services in a section, specially intended for this purpose

Forums has always been very successful for me. Banners, Sig links really work to work on with it.

It depends on the quality of traffic. Are you targeting a particular niche/geographic location etc ? If it's just traffic you can try Fark, Stumble, Forum signatures. Try PPC ad campaigns next time.

It is less likely someone clicks advertisement . Users prefer clicking signatures. But when it comes to make money from forum, its important for webmasters.

Actually I am finding forum advertising or better said, promotion a highly effective way to drive traffic to your site.

I do not refer to spam but to signature links and by making quality posts at the forum. You may advertise your site or service if the forum allows you to do that in a certain section of the forum.

Yes, what you mean about "advertise"? If you mean advertising on signature post. That's a good idea. The most way to get traffic and do follow link faster indexed than another.

I refer to mainly the signature files that we append to our posts.

However there are forums that allow us to directly advertise our sites and services. Browse down the forums and see if they allow you to directly advertise your site...

Either way, forums postings are a great way to get traffic and targeted visitors!
