I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why this is happening.

I am using php includes for my navbar, left sidebar, and the footer on a project I am working on.

I've used includes numerous times and never seen this before.

Here is the html version of the site:

So I taken out the content on each the 3 sections (navbar, left sidebar, and footer) and inserted the php include code:

Saved it as a .php file instead of .htm; copied the navbar and other html from each section into a new file and saved them as a .php file as well.

But when I upload everything onto my server:

NO LINK

I am getting unwanted spacing pushing the navbar, left sidebar header, and footer content down. I ran thru my css and that doesn't fix anything.

What is causing it to push those sections down?

save files without bom character.
how to do this debends on the editor your using.
"Encoding: UTF-8 without bom"

What is bom?

and why did it do that to the includes.

It's basically a invisible control character that when forced to render will put some empty space.

It would tell the endianness of a file but is not needed in x86 environment and PHP cannot hande it that well.
Is the data read from left to right or right to left from memory when data is handles in bits.

Wikipedia explains this much better than i do
