AHHH can someone help

Please bear with me as I struggle through this. I am not very familar with networking and have been learning as I go. Mostly through trial and error!
I have 19 workstations networked through to our server which is a bit ancient (compaq 3000), everything but our email is done through this server.
The problem i am having is this. Out of the 19 workstations only 3 of us are are able to connect to the internet. This baffles me as the case is usually when one can not access it no one can. Any suggestions or vague points in the right direction?
Thanks
