Adding Control Bar for .swf file playing on website

I converted an .avi file to .swf (using AVS Converter) so I could upload it to my website. The file plays fine by simply using the object tag in my code.

But if I want to have player controls (start, stop, pause, etc) appear, how do I do that? Is there code I can add that will automatically show the control bar and keep the video from playing automatically when the page is loaded?

If it can't be done via HTML, what is the cheapest solution to my needs?

Thanks for your help.

You should probably have converted the avi to flv (flash video) then you could have controls for it. www.gotoandlearn.com is a greate site for learning about how to make a flash video controller. There are a few converters out there. Search for Riva FLV Encoder. Its free and I think it can convert avi to flv.

Control Bar for SWF movie

Thank you for the response. I took a look at gotoandlearn.com and it seems like a great resource. The only problem is it seems to deal primarily with users who already own Flash MX software (which I don't).

I guess the more fundamental question is, if a person only has a video file (say an AVI file) and doesn't own any other software, what would be the best way to create a file that can be uploaded to a website and would still have the player controls (stop, pause, play). I've been able to get the file loaded on my site and playing, that's no problem. It's getting the player controls to show up and allowing the user to control the video that I'm stumped on.

I think I'm missing something fundamental about the difference between the .swf file and the .fla file. Does one hold the information for the player and the other does not?

Any help is appreciated. I know this is probably a really basic question but I'm having quite a time getting the right answer from searched, FAQ's and tutorials.

Thanks again for the help.

He offers the files available for download. You don't need flashmx. Do you own DW8? The fla file holds all of the information that makes up the swf file. The fla file should never be uploaded to a server. You can still convert to flv (flash video). I told you the program you needed for that. Can you post a link to the avi file? If you are worried about it being downloaded to much, then PM it to me. I'll convert it and put in a flash video player with controls for you.

i use an app called video to flash converter with an option 'generate html'.
it converts a video file to swf/flv and creates html page with start, stop, pause buttons. very convenient for me, coz i'm not so good in programming.

I have the same problem and was wondering if you could do the same for me or teach me.
Here's the problem....my .fla file is about 40MB and the .swf file I can make out of it when saving the file as .swf file is about 10MB. So...using flash 8, I can't figure out how to save my movie with controls to my website using dreamweaver.
Any help? Thanks

.fla is the source file of a Flash project, and the SWF is the compiled file of the .fla.
To enable your video has a control bar with control buttons, you need to make a SWF web player, and your video should be FLV (Flash video), then you can embed or link the FLV to the SWF web player.

All these things can be created in Adobe Flash CS3 via actionscript. Now that you are beginner of Flash, you can use Moyea web player Pro, it is easy to use even you don't know Flash you can easily make videos played in a flash video player with skinnable control bar.
