Html is text files.

Now, don't quote me on it because I've never used the function, but in Dreamweaver you can have what they call a "trace" background. You call up an image, presumably a page template, and recreate the same image using regular HTML. I don't know if Frontpage will do the same thing, but it might.

You have to cut up the whole image with slicing. In ImageReady, usually coupled with Photoshop, it'll let you slice up the image into parts and you can save them as JPG or GIF files. So like load the PSD inside ImageReady. Then ImageReady will also create the basic HTML for you and save it in some file where you can take a look at it.

Okay i have the same problem. I got free .psd website template which you suppose to be ABLE to edit and then convert into html so you can make a website with it. But yes you can edit it using PhotoShop but Photoshop is just an image editor. In order to convert .psd template into html, you need to use Dreamweaver or Front Page which isnt free and cost money...
Any more questions email me hom1525@aol.com

eli2k is quite correct.

Use photoshop to edit the file. Photoshop comes with Image ready, they used to sell it but now it is packaged with Photoshop.

Have a play with Image ready and learn how to use it to splice images and write the HTML for you. I am not to sure on this aspect as I do all my splicing by hand.

Just do a search for image ready tutorials if you want some help.

CONVERT PSD into HTML

Hi Everyone, I need some help with conversion. I got myself a PSD website template online too. I went into IMAGEREADY and sliced up the image and now when I export I get a HTML file with tons of images. Then I go into DREAMWEAVER and open the file, but I cannot EDIT the body TEXT in Dreamweaver. Seems like everything has been exported as IMAGE. If there anyway to Export HTML TEXT from imageready with the proper formatting, like a supporting CSS file or something.

Thanks,
Mansoor.

There shouldn't be any text in a PSD file. Not when it's a template, anyway.

We'd have to see the image to know for sure what you're talking about. Could you attach a copy of the file to a post so we can see what you mean?

You will have to edit the text in its PSD format. The text should be preserved in a given layer. Use the text tool to change it to your desired wording or format.

When done, then apply the SLICE and HTML transformation.

If it was a template in psd. format just open it in photoshop and save as a html file with jpg.
you can then open it in dreamweaver. very simple

Summary: You can use some of familiar tools:

1. Image Ready can cut stuff automatically and generate nasty HTML with the tables and cells.

2. Macromedia Fireworks works well with Dreamweaver. You can open a PSD in Fireworks, slice it and then export to Dreamweaver.

3. You can use Photoshop. Just slice all the different parts and create layers in Dreamweaver or some other WYSIWYG web design tool.

The problem is that you will end up with so much stuff that you need to clean up and such a hard table layout to work with. At the end of day you will spend more time fixing things, than you would spend slicing the PSD manually. There is also need to respect the W3C Web Standards. I have not yet seen a tool that does this job the right way.

If you’re looking to save some time on your project you may want to consider trying one of psd convert to html services such as CSS Mafia.
