  • Inherited CSS values?

    Hello

    I have a 'test' page here:

    http://www.bayingwolf.com/display_recordsTEST.asp

    While I am happy with the width of this table, the columns should look like this:

    http://www.bayingwolf.com/display_records1.asp

    The display_recordsTEST file is regulated by two CSS files and there must be an inconsistency somewhere to cause the table not to display properly. The styleMDB.css file looks like this:

    Code:
    .headerRow td {
        font-family: 'News Cycle', arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-weight: bold;
        background-color: #9999CC;
    text-align: center;
    }

    td {
        font-family: 'News Cycle', arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
        background-color: #9999CC;
    text-align: center;
    }

    body {
    	margin-top: 50px;
    	padding: 0;
    }
    and the demo.css looks like this:

    Code:
    h1

    {

    color:#3a6d8c;
    font-size:34px;
    line-height:40px;
    margin:0;

    }

    h3

    {

    color:#3a6d8c;
    font-size:22px;
    line-height:26px;
    font-weight:normal;
    margin:0 0 8px 0;

    }

    img {border:0;

    }

    #logo {margin-bottom:20px; width:300px;

    }

    #logo h1

    {

    color:#666;
    letter-spacing:-1px;
    font-weight:normal;

    }

    #logo h1 span

    {

    color:#444;
    font-weight:bold;

    }

    #logo .title

    {

    color:#999;
    font-size:12px;

    }

    #container

    {

    margin:0 auto;
    padding-top:20px;
     width:800px;

    }

    #content

    {

    border-bottom:1px dotted #999;
    border-top:1px dotted #999;
    padding:20px 0;

    }

    #footer

    {

    clear:left;

    color:#888;
    margin:20px 0;

    }

    #footer a:link,
    #footer a:visited

    {color:#888;
    text-decoration:none;

    }

    #footer a:hover

    {

    color:#333;
    text-decoration:underline;

    }
    Any advice, please?

    Hi there Blueie,

    I didn't bother to look at your CSS as your page has 233 coding errors and 3 warnings . These errors must be resolved before the CSS can be checked.

    Here is a major table error to start with...
    Code:

    <table width='100%' border='1'>
    <tr class="headerRow">
                    <td>ID</td>
    		<td >First Name</td>
    		<td >Last Name</td>
    		<td >Wolf ID</td>
    		<td >Tel No</td>
                    <td >Address</td>
    		<td >City</td>
    		<td >Postcode</td>
    		<td >Items</td>
    		<td >Received</td>
    		<td >Dispatched</td>
        </tr>
    </table>

    The closing "table tag" must be changed to an opening "tr tag".

    Then work through the rest of the errors - there should be less than twenty after
    the correction that I have pointed out.

      Hello coothead

      Thanks for your reply.

      The table is, in fact, closed here:

      Code:
      response.write "<table class='myTable'>"

      %>

      <tr class="headerRow">
                      <td>ID</td>
      		<td>Full Name</td>
      		<td>Wolf ID</td>
      		<td>Tel No</td>
                      <td>Address</td>
      		<td>Email</td>
      		<td>Description</td>
      		<td>Received</td>
                      <td>Action</td>
      		<td>Dispatched</td>
          </tr>

      <%
      'Determine whether there are any records
       If Recordset.EOF Then
       Response.Write "<tr><td>No records returned.</td></tr>"
       Else
      'If there are records then loop through the fields and format in table rows & cells

      Do While Not recordset.EOF

      Response.Write "<tr><td>" & recordset("ID") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("fullName") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("wolfID") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("telNo") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("address") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("email") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("description") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("received") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("action") & "</td>"
      Response.Write "<td>" & recordset("dispatched") & "</td></tr>"
      'move on to the next record
       Recordset.MoveNext
       Loop
      'Close the HTML table
       response.write "</table>"
       End If

      %>
      But I appreciate you would not have seen it on account of the <% %>

      Thanks for posting, anyway.

        Okay this page is using Server-Side Scripting, which is basically a program that is pre-processed by the server and the resulting HTML page is what is sent to each visitors browser.

        So the HTML code should be validated after the server-side scripting has been processed. A script is basically step by step instructions on how to build the website and piece together the HTML. If there are problems in the script it can build an incomplete page.

        The server-side scripting appears to be in ASP, for which I am unfamiliar with. You can try in that section: http://www.htmlforums.com/f-asp-and-aspnet-51.html/

            Blueie, take this closing table tag out of the if then section.

            response.write "</table>"

            And move it after the "end if"
