    In what context?

    If in HTML, in which tag?

    CSS may well be able to achieve this, depending on the answers to these questions...

      Using it in an object tag to embed a flash movie. I want the background of the object to be an image in the same way that i use param name=bgcolor

        W3schools suggest not

        Try experimenting with

        HTML Code:
        <object style="background-image: url(file:bg.jpg);">

        </object>
        You may need the repeat-x and repeat-y attributes too, depending on the image.

        (I haven't tried this myself BTW, so experiment...)

          <object style="background-image: url('images/IMG_0051.png'); background-repeat:no-repeat;" .....

          but you also need the

          <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> because the flash object window sits on top of any HTML ( you will also need wmode=transparent for the non IE browser section of the object code.
