I had to log in to try to get ahold of scoutt - my emails to him are suddenly bouncing. Happened to come across this thread in the process.

From what I can tell (based on attempting to log in a handful of times over the last 24 hours), the login issue is caused by the iframe into which the login form loads - it seems to be redirecting back to the parent [adding a session id to it or something similar, presumably it's a referrer check], at which point you can re-log in, which loads the successfully logged in page in the same iframe the login form logs into, if you try to refresh, the login doesn't hold, but if you open the iframe target, or one of the urls from it, it'll keep you logged in as usual. Perhaps setting the login form/links not to use the iframe (or just removing the iframe/changing the skin being used) would resolve the problems?

*lol* I'm just glad you got in. I don't know why or how but I'm glad it's been fixed. Here's hoping it stays fixed.

CatGirl, your posts remind me of a chatbot in development.

I'd go as far to as that the vast majority of people are not posting at all... anywhere. Over the years, as the massive amount of information available became increasingly accessible, users no longer need to ask questions. Answers are already available without the need of waiting for a response. Most questions tend to revolve around entire projects, and there is no arguing that places such as github have a firm grasp on that area. If HTML Forums wants to attract more users, they have to adapt to the the changes in web development (ie. interactive courses in current technologies, galleries, responsive boilerplate libraries, integration articles, etc.). There has to be an attraction to users that isn't dated. Very few people have the attention span, or even the desire, to be part of a community that isn't DIRECTLY related to their current objective or project.

                    My two cents.

*lol* Sorry. I've been around to chase out the spammers, but that's about it. I'm waiting to hear back from my publisher about getting Book 1 published. Once that's done, I'll work more on Books 2 and 3 and get the former ready for publication and the latter finished.

*lol* No, I groaned at it, though. I just didn't think it politically correct for the supervisor of the forums to be laughing out loud at a remark made on someone else's thread.

Unfortunately, Doug, I believe you're correct. No attention span, no 'need' for a community if it doesn't include a chat room, and the questions are answered by Google. And people, as you say, aren't willing to learn to do for themselves. They want the answer to their current problem without seeing that learning something makes the next problem go away. <sigh>
