Unhappy Flash .swf calling a .txt - I can't figure this code out

I have a Flash glossary that is calling a .txt file with all of the terms and definitions. The issue is that the code uses the & symbol to signify a return or a new definition. However, some of my terms require the & symbol in their definition and I can't figure out how to get around that. Here's a sample:

&item23=LDP#Learning & Development Plans.&
&item24=OLD#Organization Learning & Development.&
&num_items=35&
&itemsfile_loaded=1&

You'll probably either have to change the code to use a different symbol or change the ampersands in your text to "and."

Unhappy

Thanks. I can't change to "and" because our company is adamant about using the symbol.

Any ideas on what other symbols I can use in the code? I have tried a few different things and it's not working yet....

Code is my weak point.

The pipe symbol (vertical bar, above the backslash) tends to work well.

Ok, I tried that too and it didn't work. Maybe I am inputting it wrong?

item1=ADDIE#The five phases-Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation-represent a dynamic, flexible guideline for building effective training and performance support tools.|
|item2=Asynchronous Learning#A process of learning that allows the student to learn material at their own pace while physically being separate from their instructor.|
|item3=ASTD#American Society of Training and Development|

Did you also change the ActionScript to look for the pipe instead of the ampersand?

are the values you are pulling in going to be used in Dynamic text fields? if so, set them to display as HTML and try the HTML & in place of the '&' in the actual names...

just an idea, but the & in & may still mess you up...

Since & is a concatenation for variables, you cannot use it just like that. You have to url-encode your ampersand if you want to use it as a part of your variable value.

Replace & with %26 wherever you want the value to contain the ampersand.
For example:
&item23=LDP#Learning%26Development Plans.&

Let me know if it works.
