Free Domains: The End Of - HTML Forums

Since there has been a lot of discussion in this forum about 'free' domains, I just thought I'd inform you that NameDemo no longer offers a free service.

And now that NameZero, NameDemo and DomainZero no longer offer free services, it seems like the end of 'free' domain names.
And good ridance!

It was a good concept (in theory anyway). But with the prices of domain registration, who in their right mind would bother with giving the rights to their own creations to someone else just to have to earn it back? It would have made more sense when domains were $100 for the first two years (before the drop to $70), but domains nowadays are just too cheap, and some free hosts that park domains have minimal or no ads (the others can be removed for cheap).

They were doomed to fail.

PS. The banners weren't so bad, or even pop-ups. What I really couldn't stand was the huge bottom frame on most of these free domain sites!

Well .. i got one from domainzero.com which incidentally are also charging now. And i have no ads at all in my pages. They sent one advertising e-mail to me and thats it for a year! nice eh?

Pitty though.. When it runs out i have to buy it. :-(

Steve ... you only get FREE HOSTING .. you have to buy the actual domain name.

The cheapest that I know of is $9.99, so you can't complain of free domains.

I have actually seen them reviewed at a few different places (web and print) and everyone seems to think that it is a good deal. I actually have them as an affiliate on my site (not that that means anything of course!).

If you still have yesterday's Sunday paper (4/1/01) and you have the Access magazine that was in it, there is a small review on page 2.

It is $15 a year for 5 years, $25 for one year, and $38 for two years for the domain name.

Also, if you already have a domain, it's only $35 for a transfer fee.

And for Dave.....your right about about the domain. I geuss I should have read the first post completely.

Must have been from all the SPAM posts!:p

Thanks to the guy with the brilliant name (unregistered) the deal looks good...

A proper domain name .co.uk, .com, .net or .org for free.. BUT an ad is displayed when they leave your site. I think it is probably possible to close it down as it opens with javascript tho =)
