Domain registering question - HTML Forums

I am in NY and my Aunt lives in Canada, she wants me to build a site for her so I called up Yahoo and here in the US and told them that my Aunt will be calling them to register her domain name and sign up for their hosting package, they told me that they can't register her domain name, that she has to do it with a company in her country but they can do the website hosting for her, why is this? Also, does this apply only to Canada or do other countries have to do the same thing please?

Hi Mike,
As far as we know tou can register a domain from any country, we have many from Godaddy, A canada .ca is about $8.95 a year. Not to sure on Yahoo policy for registration of domains. but you can normally just purchase as normal, there used to be some sort problem if you were a registered company trading from the EU with a domain name from another country? you would need to contact a domain company to find out the procedure. Dont think there a problem with .com's

yeah - it doesn't matter if you have .com, .org, .ca or whatever. Godaddy is the one only one I know - but there are tons of other providers out there that are just as good.

Is there any reason why you wanna register you Aunt’s domain name just on Yahoo?
