stop auto height for table td

i have a table and I want each row to be the exact same height despite the content in them. if I set something like td{height:100px} then it will set all table cells that height but if the content in the cell exceeds the height it will change the height to fit the content. is there a way to stop this? I know with regular divs I just put overflow:hidden; and it works great but table cells don't seem to be affected by this.

Have you tried max-height:100px; ? I'm not sure that IE will recognise it, but that might provide a solution in other browsers.
