Hello all,

I'm currently working on a website aimed at busy teachers - http://www.openmaths.com - and as such am trying out various ways to increase the intuitiveness of the layout. In particular, I've been fiddling around with fixed positioning to make it so that the navigation bar is always visible (I know this falls apart in IE6 - I will be designing a static stylesheet later to put up when 6 is detected as the browser).

Currently I'm happy with the effect, but there is one niggling problem - if the screen width is reduced to less than 800px (the width of the site) and you scroll the page left and right, then of course the navigation menus stay where they are and the main page moves behind it, looking very nasty. I was going to have a static stylesheet also for 800x600 screen resolutions, but I'm worried that users at higher resolutions may nevertheless not be using the full width of the screen for their browser windows - and I'd like not to leave the issue unresolved, anyway.

So, in a nutshell, does anyone know of a technique that would allow me to have my navigation objects in a fixed position vertically, but scroll normally horizontally?
