Column backgrounds need to be the same width. - HTML Forums

Hi,

I am having a trouble here with my website. I have four columns on each page and each column has a background with is just a line to seperate the columns. I need these lines to go down as far as the longest column does but even say on the menu where it's less high.

I could just change the height of the column but on other pages with less information the columns will be too high and there will be a lot of whitespace.

Please can someone help me figure out a way to do this.

If I understood your request correctly, the easiest thing would be to accomplish this by using tables. You can simply set your table border style to: border-right-color:#000

Otherwise, you would have to write a script which will calculate the height of all div's, figure out the longest one and then change the height of all div's to be that biggest value.

Is there a reason you want to do this with div's?

I don't want to do with tables as I want to do it in CSS. But if that's the only way by calculation then I'll just have to set the height of the lines to the biggest size needed on the site.

Are all pages looking the same with four collumns? If so, you could just slap on a background with lines and have it set to repeat-y;.
