best way of putting a border around table cells - HTML Forums

i am making a calendar using a table. I don't like the retro border="1" attribute on tables but I want the same effect just with a single black line as a cell instead of the border attribute effect. I can put a blanket statement like td{border:1px solid #000000} and that sort of does it except that since each table cell has a border you get a sort of double border effect with the table's cells that are next to each other. and the ones that are not you just get a single border effect. I don't want a double border I just want a single 1 pixel border. The only way I can think of preventing this is giving special classes on the table cells and putting partial borders around those cells.... does anyone else have a better idea?
