Running asp Website on loacal Machine

Hi,

I have basic experience of java and html and have been asked to edit some content on a website. I have been editing the different files using textedit.

I run into a problem when I try to run the website from my local machine. When I click on links to .asp files I am getting "Do you want to save or open this file ... etc".

I would have expected these files to simply open in the web browser.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

b

Identical problem

I'm running ASP, and have the very same problem (do you want to Open or Save ...). IIS is running. Not sure about Scripts setting. Do you mean, under "Preferences", "Invisible Elements" to Show Scripts (checked). It wasn't, but I just checked it. Made no difference. Any other suggestions? This is my first time with a dynamic site, so handholding is required. Thanks! Ed

Trouble with ASP

In answer to Afterburn, http://d-mystify.net/register.asp. As you can see, the basic site is fully functional, BUT not linked to the page in question. BSXIONG - I have decided to try php, but couldn't get that working either. Can you say FRUSTRATION! I'm using the full version (not student) of Dreamweaver CS3. Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Narrowing the asp problem

Are any of you still there? It's been several days without a reply.

It turns out that my host provider had me on a unix server, so asp and Access were not compatible. I'm now on a Windows NT server. Dynamic Text still fails. I've narrowed the problem. If the page has a recordset attached, I get "The page cannot be displayed". If I delete the recordset (without making any other changes), the page displays. After attaching the recordset, it tests good in Dreamweaver. Any ideas?

Not displaying dynamic text

I've been conversing with someone who knows asp. He says the problem is with the operating system (Win XP Pro - actually XP Media Center). All asp pages work without a recordset attached, but fail with the recordset. If anyone is still around, are there any suggestions?
