Wu-FTPd is the most commonly-installed file in most major Linux distros. This new flaw allows hackers to gain remote access to all files on the server, if they can access the service itself. Because most servers allow for anonymous access, many servers will be affected.
The group that discovered the flaw informed Linux software companies and the group that manages wu-ftpd. However Red Hat released this information earlier than expected and left many companies without a patch.
