I am going to assume that about half of you will want to kill me for suggesting this, and that the other half will agree - we'll see how it goes, eh?
Anyway, this is a big forum. I don't mean big as in... big, but big as in *really* *really* big.
My idea was, what if a mail is sent out to ALL 0 post users that has not posted within three months of signing up reminding them to log in or be deleted within two months.
Then, a mail to all users that have not posted more than 25 posts after ½ years inactivity that will delete them within ½ a year.
Then, one for under 250 posts that is sent after a year, which will remove user after a year.
All over that are immune as they are long-term users.
We just have thousands of 0 post users and it's just useless to have that and saying "Ooh, there's loads of members here!" since most never did nothing here...
Is anyone with me on this or did I judge 100% incorrectly...?

I'm not sure about the longer term stuff - but I agree with the 0 posters...

I guess if it is hogging up valuable real estate over at the database servers :D

Some of those 0 posters are lurkers. They get information from us and don't have the expertise to answer any questions. There's no harm in that and some of them will eventually join in, I'm sure.
A lot of the zero posters, too, are spambots. How do you tell the difference without causing a mass stampede of spammers?
There's no harm in having them here. They don't take up that much space on the servers. We've had this discussion before, in the Mods Lounge and it was decided that the issue wasn't that important that we had to start deleting members just because they haven't posted.

Well, how about "no logins" then? If noone has logged in for X they will be warned, warned again and then purged. That should be no problem as a fix for the 0 posters that DONT even visit here?

Seems like a good idea to me. The only reason I say that is because it would make the list of names of people with birthdays a lot smaller, making it easier to see which active members have a birthday today.

Agreed. Also the user list would be easier to browse

Personally I don't see the use in deleting the users unless they hog valuable space, which they don't seem to do. But like BonRogue said, it could be nice to narrow the list of birthdays I guess. :)

deleting of members will not happen. Some if not a lot are spammers and when there user names get deleted then that allows them to signup as the user once again, along with that email address. There is a reason why we do not delete members. and it seems like this was asked a year or so ago back, seems familiar.
It is not the users that have zero posts that hurt us. It is the number of users on during the day. a site cannot get any bigger if ~15 users are on at a time. We need to have users in the 50-100 on at a time. Then it will start to get busy in here.
for tracking reason no user will ever be deleted.
