Does anybody know where I can find a free tool that lowers the file size of gifs and jpegs?

Well there are several out there, however I like Adobe's free compressor the best.

Check it out: http://webservices.adobe.com/optimize/main.html

Hope that this helps you! :)

Well why didn't I think of that?

Take a look at www.softseek.com. (http://www.softseek.com.) I've used lots of stuff from them and never been disapointed.

Hope that you find waht your looking for! :)

For A good Graphics Compressor, look for one at download.com if you havent looked there allready. There you should Find XRT Gfx Compressor, which is a small companie that rivals Adobe. They have a great program out there, that prety much does everything Adobe 5.5 does, its compatible with all the addons and filters of Adobe, and best of all its priced considerably lower than Adobe. Look Into it. XRT is the company name.

I know you indicated you wanted a 'off-line' version to work, but this website can't be beat. There is plenty of things you can do to improve yopur site, w/o fees.
