I was just royally screwed by charge.com - don't fall into their trap - well, I don't mean to sound like I'm telling what to do or not do, but suffice it to say, I'm out my entire savings...and owe my folks $300.00 to boot. So, you really have to be careful. There were three separate sites involved and one, the one who has the software set up, authorize.net, is very, very good. Their customer service tried to help me and said if I can find a new merchant, we would wipe out the middle man - i.e., charge.com and that would save me their fees. So basically, you first need a merchant. They told me banks - your own bank - will most likely be able to be your merchant as well, Perhaps you could get some straight, honest answers from them, first.
good luck ! I'm back to paypal now but want to thank whkoh for the other sites you listed - I'm going to check them out. There is one I'm also checking into called propay - http://www.propay.com They only charge a small percentage off the top of each sale. It's a little higher than others - a few cents, but you don't have all those monthly fees piling up as well.
