Please be advised that Trend Micro has identified a new virus which is
making its rounds throughout the Internet. Your company mail may be protected
from this and other viruses, however other mail providers (i.e. hotmail,
yahoo etc.) you use may not be scanning your mail for viruses.
Therefore, if you see any e-mail that meets the following criteria, do
NOT open it, DELETE it immediately, and then delete it again from your
"Deleted Items" folder. As a general rule, if you receive an e-mail with
an attached file that you weren't expecting, please verify its
authenticity BEFORE you open it. Please keep in mind that it's against
ADT policy to use your ADT PC to check a non-ADT mail server.
Please refer to the following notification which came directly from
Trend Micro for more information on this new virus:
Description:
PE_NIMDA.E is a fast-spreading Internet worm and file infector that
arrives via email, as an attachment called SAMPLE.EXE. It employs
several infection mechanisms and exploits several known vulnerabilities.
Similar to the original variant, PE_NIMDA.A, it has four modes of
propagation: through email, through network shared drives, through
un-patched IIS servers, and through file infection.
