 woo Firefox!
It's only a release candidate, right? So, nearly there :)
Why are they working on v2? They've only just got out 1.5...
I'll have a look, give it a go.

2.0 is not out yet ... that's just an RC
Thirsty Ferret
10-23-2006, 11:48 AM
Yeah, thank goodness it is too.
It messed up some of my most valued extensions!

Duh! The extensions are written for 1.5, Chris ;)
Thirsty Ferret
10-23-2006, 12:25 PM
No. Some of them are claimed to be 2.0 compatible. Silly ;)
I think I'll wait until the final build.

perhaps in this version FF has upped their support so it can actually view a majority of the websites out their correctly. then again, i doubt it.
PS - oh but that tabbed browsing is a dream!! <smirk>

At least I can arrange the toolbar how I want, skin it, customise it and add extra features to Firefox. Contrary to the bog-standard "Ugly Edition" everyone gets of IE 7...
Yes, that tabbed browsing is a dream because it was born in the Open Source environment.
 For a second there, I thought I was in the IE 7 thread!

thats a good point, one good thing about FF is that its open source and that it kicks MS in the butt to make a better product.
but ya i dunno, some ppl like features and some don't. Kinda like some ppl have to use Dreamweaver when others can snap code out in notepad. It all depends i guess.

Unfortunately, the problem here is the majority of the sites that aren't functionning properly in FF is because the designers aren't coding it properly.
Firefox display the site how the designer codes it.

Yup, every web designer should have the WebDev toolbar. It's so useful!
I agree about the tabs - no more clogged up taskbar when doing research! One neat FF Window and one for Open Office (If I'm not using Google Docs).

I hate working on windows... linux is like pro-tabbing. Tabbed everything, but it is extremely useful, because the task bar is free. When you open up your text editor, there is all your tabbed files opened. Instead of 5 files opened in your task bar mixed in with a dozen other browser windows and then a couple apps on top of it.
Also, the four desktop thing it offers is wicked. I have my media and gaming desktop, with my music going and my flash games... probably GAIM running in there too. I'll have my browser and FTP client in another window or sumtin... then a 3rd for my text editor and file browsers... sometimes the fourth for IRC or something. But it is awesome :D

Slightly off topic, but I concur with erisco's post :D

I'm using linux here right now and I'm starting to get used to it. Tabbing works perfectly well with me.

It appears that RC 3 is, in fact, what will be released as 2.0 Final.
Nice one, Kybstah!

I tried RC 3 last night (at midnight... oops) and my most valued extensions don't work. Hence, I won't be installing FF 2 until it is better supported by extensions!
The article says 1700 PST - pacific standard time! That's 1 am here! (2am where nox is )

Which extensions do you use? Most of mine work fine. Best thing you can do is to go to the extension home page and leave a message for the developer.
Some of my favourite themes don't work though, mainly the Orbit themes (yellow), and the ifox ones.
I'm using IETab, Web Developer, FirefoxMenuButtons and DownloadThemAll

Argh, damn :( I was hoping to download now :P=
i have to say i much prefered the general layout of 1.5, epecially with closing the tabs.. i'm I crazy or have they changed this? Instead of putting a close tab button on the far right, there is a close tab button on every tab.. and i keep finding myself closing tabs i didn't wanna close!

God, can someone post a screenshot of FF 2.0 already?!
erisco

Firefox is like so behind. They only have 2.0 out when Internet Explorer is already at 7.0 LOL :D
Ehem, excuse my sudden impulse to be humorous in such an ignorant way ;)

I've gone back to FF 1.5 - there's one extension I can't do without that doesn't support FF2!
I'm gonna go see if there's an alternative now, then may go back to 2 if there is...
There was an alternative :)
I sure miss Tab Mix Plus, though :(
welshsteve
10-25-2006, 11:31 AM
Which extension is that?
Thirsty Ferret
10-25-2006, 11:31 AM
It was Zombie Keys, turns out there's another one about.
Anyone found a decent alternative to Tab Mix Plus that's FF 2 compatible yet? :(
Got the latest build of their test version for FF 2 - np :)
This spell checker's amazing!

Yes it is a real shame. lly he'll recover, but I can't see him being the same person again.

Never heard of zombie keys, what's it do?
Thirsty Ferret
10-26-2006, 06:06 AM
Zombie keys lets you easily put in accented characters - é, è, ä, á, à etc... Found another one now, though. Don't like it as much, but it works.
That's what I get for doing French essays on Google Docs :P
welshsteve
10-26-2006, 06:28 AM
I see. Well best of luck with your french essay :D
I'm currently trawling through reams of tables for a website I'm building. Loads of tabular data. I eventually plan to make life a whole lot easier by using ASP.NET to handle it all, but at the moment, it's manual tables.:(
Thirsty Ferret
10-26-2006, 06:30 AM
Heh, I wish it was only one :(
So what are everyone's favourite Firefox 2 extensions? I quite like the Ageing Tabs extension...
welshsteve
10-26-2006, 06:33 AM
My favourites are the ones I'm using at the moment.
Web Developer, IE Tab, DownloadThemAll, FirefoxMenuButtons.
There was a CSS viewer I used which popped a floating box with all the CSS for an element you're hovering over, but it wasn't compatible with FF2.

I think I'll try Down Them All. I quite like the Download Status bar (but I had that before).
I haven't found any decent themes yet either :(
Kybstah
10-26-2006, 06:54 AM
i use Web Developer, DownThemAll! and FireFTP.
Thirsty Ferret
10-26-2006, 07:00 AM
Wow, DownThemAll is good!
I couldn't do without Tab Mix Plus, or FoxyTunes. There are some others in there too; about 17 in total.

There are some themes I like. I've always liked the Orbit themes, and I've finally found Orbit Yellow for FF2, Orbit Yellow 2006.
Azerty III, Phoenity Modern, Noia Extreme and Mostly Crystal are decent themes as well.

FireBug is one I can't live without.
I didn't know about the Web Developer one, but it's great!

Adblock Plus is really nice. Actually just got it recently... but it has blocked absolutely everything thus far. Browse the spammiest of sites with no spam!

Firefox never fails to amaze...
Now, not saying Opera, Safari, and etc are not good browsers. Before anyone jumps on me for that ;)
Thirsty Ferret
10-27-2006, 02:00 AM
I used to use Opera as my main browser, but when I got Gmail I preferred the Gmail web interface over the Opera pop3 client.
What's the difference between Adblock and Adblock Plus? I'm confused

Never tried firebug, but will give it a go. The Web Developer extension is the best extension around if you're a developer in my opinion.

Yeah, WebDev is definitely worth getting. Anyone who studies a language, it's a good idea to get the relative language pack too :)
Firebug looks quite cool - doing a good job on the Google Docs JavaScript - that's a lot of JavaScript!
