:D I want to run a promotion like this:
"There is a £10 note hidden on one of our pages, if you find one, click it and the money is yours"
the php backend randomly places an image of £10 on 1 in 5000 pages
can I do this legally for UK viewers? I know I have to have this "no purchase necessary" to prevent it from becoming a lottery
???

Providing that you do actually provide the ten quid, then I assume its fine. (Otherwise, you can get done for fraud!)
But simply giving away ten pounds, for say a promotional offer, is fine.

Always been curious to what the amount would be in US or Canadian currency as compared to the funny looking L :)
Have a currency convertor script somewhere I could fire up to see the value over here.

Do a seach on your govermants main website. Here in Canada the federal goverment's website is a wealth of information. Inregards to your promotion here in Canada you can do such a promotion if no purchase is necessary, they have the option of mailing in a entry, and perform a skill, this making the prize a reward for being the one that was pick and successfully completed the skill.
Ever notice the (4+(5*3)/3)-1=?? math question on forms, this is why. On a side note here in Canada provinces can over ride this and ban such contest or apply different rules and this is the reason for Canadian draws you see (void in Quebec and where illegal).
Not much help for the UK end but some insight into the Canadian end of this type of promotion.

You need to be careful about defining the boundaries of this offer, i.e. do you have a limit to the number of £10 notes you are going to give away? How many people do you expect to find it? You don't want to do yourself out of a lot of money! Is there a closing date for the offer? Will it just be the first 5 people to find it that win?
Just make sure you lay out the rules clearly. You don't want to be bombarded with people claiming their £10 notes. I know the chances of finding it are relatively slim but you may have some determined visitors!

You may want to make sure that your main page isn't in the 5000 :D.

1st poster on page 15 wins £10@whsmith .... I didn't say that the payout wasn't until 2020 when I will be paid huge amounts of money for doing nothing :D
spamming is good for your health... while spamming, you cannot be sky diving :D :D :D :D

Do you mean draws or lotteries? Interesting note, I bought a Super 7 ticket in Montreal and won a free ticket. I can't cash it here in Ontario. I have to redeem it with the Quebec Lottery Corporation!
