I've been having trouble updating windows via the windows update site recently, and after investigation, found that the problem was occurring because the BITS service was not running. Windows Updates have been working for ages and I did not stop the service (it was always set to automatic). Why would this service suddenly stop running on start up? Is anyone aware of any software that can cause this when installed? I'm very vigilant with spyware adware and use WIndows Defender and AdAware on a regular basis to make sure the PC is clean.
