It should be old news by now that clicktrae has cancelled it's pay-per-click program. Do any of you have an idea why they did this? Was it a smart move? If you haven't seen it yet, below is the letter that they sent out when they made their decision http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gifear ClickTrade Merchant:

In order to focus our efforts within bCentral, Microsoft has made the
decision to phase out the pay-per-click functionality within ClickTrade.
While we realize that many of you currently use our pay-per-click
functionality, we believe that we can offer you a number of excellent
alternatives to effectively advertise your site. We want to thank our
pay-per-click customers for working with us to date, and Microsoft looks
forward to serving you with one of the alternatives listed below.

What does this mean?

As of January 11, 2000, Microsoft will no longer offer ClickTrade
customers the ability to establish new pay-per-click programs. We will
continue to support all existing pay-per-click affiliate programs until
February 28, 2000. After February 28, 2000, all ClickTrade pay-per-click
programs will be discontinued. It is important to note that all
pay-per-lead and pay-per-sale affiliate programs will remain unaffected by
this change.

To provide a smooth transition experience we have established a special
support web site to help guide you through this process http://clicktrade.bcentral.com/support/ppcfaq.cfm In addition we have
highlighted various alternatives for you to consider:

(1) Transition from pay-per-click to a pay-per-lead/sale based affiliate
program:
We have established a transition web site at http://clicktrade.bcentral.com/support/ppcfaq.cfm to guide our
pay-per-click advertisers in transferring to a pay-per-lead or
pay-per-sale based affiliate program. The pay-per-lead or pay-per-sale
payout functionality within ClickTrade provides a strong alternative to
running a per-click program.

(2) Transition from pay-per-click to an impression based advertising
campaign:
Microsoft bCentral offers one of the largest banner networks available on
the web today. The LinkExchange Banner Network spans across 450,000 web
sites and allows advertisers to choose from over 250 targeting categories
to reach the audience of their choice. According to MediaMetrix, the
LinkExchange Banner Network reaches 69% of all web users, or 43mm unique
users (more than Yahoo or AOL!). If you are interested in transitioning to
an impression based advertising campaign on our banner network please
visit our transition guide for more information at http://clicktrade.bcentral.com/support/ppcfaq.cfm

(3) Transition from pay-per-click to affordable advertising on other
popular web destinations such as Yahoo, Excite and MSN:
If you are interested in transitioning to affordable advertising on other
popular web destinations such as Yahoo!, MSN or Excite then bCentral Ad
Store allows you to target a specific audience and drive traffic to your
web site with a low-cost ad campaign. If you are interested in learning
more about bCentral Ad Store please visit our transition guide for more
information: http://clicktrade.bcentral.com/support/ppcfaq.cfm

We understand that the decision to discontinue ClickTrade pay-per-click
functionality may be a cause of concern for many of you, but we want to
ensure everyone that we will do our best to ensure a smooth experience.

ClikXchange always pretty much on time if you need good clicks programs. about.com has some good affiliate programs too, 5 cents per click with a lot of targeting, not too bad. text links are easy to place.
