Hey,

I just got my ubuntu live cd today and Ive tried it out already. It works perfectly well! I love it!!!!

There are just two things that I dont know how to fare with:

1.When I shut down ubuntu, it didnt completely turn off the computer. I had to press the on/off button to turn the power off. Is that normal with ubuntu?

2. I dont know how to get an internet connection under ubuntu. I have a wireless network card in my laptop which connects to a wireless modem router in another room, and under windows it works. But ubuntu doesnt use the terms 'ssri name' and 'ip address' (at least I didnt see it), so I had no idea how to get a connection to the modem router under ubuntu. Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks for any input!

1. It could be an Ubuntu thing, but most likely it is a setting for your motherboard. In order to change this you would need to go into the BIOS.

2. Wireless can be tricky with Linux systems. I found a link (http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/46385/) that might be helpful.

LiveCD may not be able to completely hault the computer what version are you using?, does your Windows normally kill the power? If it doesn't it is surely a BIOS setting.

Hey,
thanks for the replies.

Its all ok now. It only happened once that the computer didnt shut down, it has worked since then.

It was also very easy to establish the wireless connection, all I had to do was type in the name of the wireless network, and then it worked. Ive not tried it yet with an encrypted wireless network, but Im sure I just have to type in the keys. Anyway an unencrypted connection was easy, I guess its the same with a key.

Cheers!
