If your new to Linux, I suggest you read up on it. Find out what Linux can offer you that Windows can't and vice versa. Ultimately the decision is up to yourself.
I suggest looking into Dual Boot where you can use both Windows and Linux on the same machine. If you like user friendly layouts, I suggest you look into "Kubuntu", very nice for a user that's had Windows, and is new to Linux.

Look for Ubuntu instead. They offer free CDs and DVDs from ShipIt. By far the most friendly Linux distro.

Look for Ubuntu
Kubuntu is actually based on the Ubuntu distro, so there won't be too much difference ;)

I shall have to agree - Kubuntu is the best for a fresh Linux newbie, as it is very easy to install, configures by itself, and has a lot of applications with it. Then, if you want to go to extreemes, you can mod it too =)
Definately, get Kubuntu. I don't know, I need to check the release dates, as the next Kubuntu will have an even easier installer, which I actually don't like as it gets too easy ;)
Seriously, if you could install Windows, you can install Kubuntu :)
Go for it :D

Personally, I would rather encourage you to play with the Live Linux cd's before installing it to your hard drive.
Simply Mepis, PcLinuxOS, and Knoppix are 3 of the VERY best, and all can be installed to your hard drive with ease if you choose to do so later. But the beauty of the Live linux disks, is that you can boot the disk from your cdrom, and run Linux in the RAM , and never have to mess up your Windows system....... at least until you become comfortable with Linux...... ;)
