View Full Version : Getting listed in Yahoo

I'm launching a new site on my own and since my partner (who has had to bow out) for my present site did everything related to search engines, this is all new to me. I read this on another forum: [ONLY have your pages on your site when you submit to Yahoo. Nothing outside your site, including affiliate banners, etc. The reason why is that you have no control over those other sites. They might be down. There might be a backbone problem in their neighborhood, etc. When you submit to Yahoo, a person goes there and clicks on your pages, and links there. If they get a 404, or anything they don't like, you are X'd. Don't take the chance. Just keep it totally your site. AFTER you get approved, you can update as you like, they are not coming back to check up on you.]

I do not intend to pay that $299 fee for Yahoo's express listing, rather just submit the free way, so:
#1. Is the above advice valid?
#2. If I need to wait to add affiliates and other external links, how long should I anticipate waiting to get listed in Yahoo?
#4. Would this advice apply to any other search engines?

Thanx in advance for any and all insight, suggestions, tips :)

:D remember it takes 8 weeks to get listed if you are approved. Just keep it sensible and you'll be OK.

:D removing the treasures from the trash (not :D)

Hi Judy,

I wouldn't say that you couldn't add any affiliate links and banners, but if you are aware that a site somewhere is down chronically, I would aviod adding it. I wrote an article on submitting to Yahoo a while back, which I would suggest reading before you submit, it will help you improve the quality of your Yahoo listing, as well as improve your odds of getting in.

You can find it here:

Let me know if you have any questions :D

I went to thier main page and suggested my site, 3 days later is was listed,(most other SE use spiders but Im told Yahoo manually checks out the sites) and about the same time for 'alltheweb'

Back when Yahoo used Inkotami it was pretty easy to get a good listing. Now the problem is that they use google and it is kind of hard to get on google. However, now that my site is larger and more popular I get a pretty good listing in google and on yahoo under web pages. I have never made it into their directory using the free submit and dont have the money to get the express submit.
Good Luck
Paul

Yep Google and Alltheweb I think are the 2 best search engines used...and as you mentioned a while to get on Google, I think they only update listings once a month.

I know from Google that it take more than a month before they update the database.

I like the Google page ranking.
