Ok, I finally finished my XHTML 1.1 valid site. It is in a temp dir soon to replace the current site. Some of the links may not work, but I think everything works 100%. I have also focused on WAI(accessibility) and so far pass the test at http://www.cynthiasays.com/.
Let me know what you think before I put it live.
Thank you,
Geoserv.

- header/banner is a bit boring
- id like to see some borders or something to differentiate between the diiferent content/columns
- site just seems a bit bland otherwise
good luck

First impression: Nice!
The site is very well formatted with reasonable white space and padding between content which obviously makes for easy reading. The top margin for the Home page and also the Medals page needs to be brought down 5 or so pixels to match the rest of the pages, because right now when you click on those two menu links from other pages the entire page content shifts vertically - visually annoying.
As I mentioned, you've done well in the layout and content control.
Good luck,
Gändälf

i love it. it does exactly what it is supposed to, which is present information in a clean crisp readalbe fashion. so i disagree with John regarding it being bland. i say, well done that man.

I tested it and dont see it. The margins are all the same in my css files.

Here is a screenshot with both examples. The first one has 5pixels white space between the titlebar and top of the browser's viewing window. The second one has 11pixels of white space.
This is an issue Firefox1.5, but not in NS8.1 using IE's rendering engine. Actually when IE's rendering engine is used, there is no white space above the titlebar.

ok, thanks.
Can you take another look Gandalf. I found an empty <h3></h3> at the top of the "about" page.

Try to make the banner 1 image, not 5 or 6. Looks nice, good html, 9/10

I was wondering if I should take the 5 images and combine them into one. Maybe I will now that you have suggested it.
Thansk for noticing the HTML Silver, every page validates and complies with WAI. I have put alot of time into ensuring its cross-browser compatibility.
Gandalf, I dont know whats causing it to that. Any ideas?

Merging several images together to create one will actually improve download times. As for the code, I'm not sure. If I get time over the day or so I will look into it, but don't let it stop all progress. :D

Theres a reason for that and thats because I really dont know much - I use this site to try and improve my skills in building my own amateur looking sites...
For what its worth I think its a good site.
Like the subtle colours
Nice Layout
The rollover links are very nice (and in the future I will use this feature of the 4px solid left border hover)
I think the border around the coins look out of place, a smaller one IMO would look better
There is a space below the coins which doesnt look right
Thats all I can say.
If you think I should Inspirox in the future I will try and review more, but is what i've said useful to the designer?
Geo? (and please be honest!)

Sometimes it's difficult to review a site. I've looked at your one several times and gone away to get drunk more so that I can think rationally.
All the comments made so far have merit even though they differ.
We lost souls who wander about up here still retain our personal sense of taste even though we have become creatures of the ether.
You can only ever get a general concensus on design issues. Our senses respond differently. I hate the smell and taste of garlic. Yep, you all love it.
So, we go back to my fail safe - does it do what it says on the tin?
In this respect it's a 100% winner. It provides a quick, easy service that will be invaluable to web developers. Obviously that was your aim and you have achieved it.
The problem you smart people have is that you don't realise how stupid most of us are. Why bother to make something that is designed to be simple and straightforward more attractive and complicated?
I think you should pander to us a little. You have the skills to indulge us, even though your intellect will make you think you are wasting your time. You aren't.
They say that whenyou write a book you only have three sections - impact, content, impact.
If this was a book you would have content.
You are obviously visually retarded because your logical mind has not seen the need for an 'impact' beginning. It can be simple. A dark blue banner type heading with the site name and a little blurb would transform the whole effect.
I'm jealous of your skills and I really do think your site is a winner in the making. You will not see the need to change anything because your boringly practical personna will not see the need. We are your punters. Even if you are giving something away you have to 'sell' it up here.
My suggestions are only 'tinkering'. The whole thing is great. Don't be easily discouraged, or respond too sharply to what you feel is criticism. We have all had a crap day down there in the other world and sometimes what we say up here reflects that scenario. Nice site. Well done. I wish you every success.

hmm...feonten, I wont even try to pretend I have any idea what your post actually means, but thanks for the kind words.
Whizz, that one error drives me razy as well, it is the result of a contest they wanted to run, it will be over at the end of the month and that error will be gone. Thankfully.
Inspironx, thank you for taking more time on the site. :)
I love the site, I am very rpud of it and probably will only change the header graphics from 5 to 1, I should've done that a long time ago.
Thanks all,
Geoserv.

sorry Geo it was Sunday evening and I was wasted. I didn't do too bad considering my condition.
The site is great. A good service. Easy to follow.
I would in fact change the header but otherwise it's 8/10. Just write to Smirnoff and complain about any negative reviews I do!
