I run my computer as a server (using apache) and for some odd reason, it quit working yesterday. I looked through all the error logs, and couldn't figure anything out. I went to whatismyip.com and it turned out my ip had changed...? That is why my server was down, I had to go through all of my webpages and change the ip addresses. Is this just something im going to have to deal with? Or can it be stopped?

Well, has your ISP changed recently? Have you changed the order of any newplugs, rebooted your server or something? Maybe that could be why, but I don't work much with Apache...
But maybe you have a rotating IP?

why on earth do you have your IP in all of your webpages? Apache should have your IP, not your webpages. plus make very certain that you rare allowed to host your own webpage. Some ISP do not allow it.

Well, it just changed again, and now that I think about it, I just disabled system restore to remove a virus... could that be it?

I run an entertainment site, therefore I have alot of files to host besides webpages (games, movies, images, etc...) I use freewebs to host my webpages, and I host everything else on my own server. They aren't in the same directory, thats why I did it. Hope that awsners your question :D

again, you should not have IP's in the webpage itself. All IPs should be in apache's httpd.conf file. but if you store stuff on other servers than why are you using your IP address if you go out from your box?
This is not making sense to me.

My server doesnt have a domain, so all files stored on my server have an address like 66.249.55.156/logo.gif . Thats why its in all of my pages, and truthfully I dont really understand what you're trying to say either

oh I see, he webpages are not on your server, they are on freewebs. I was thinking different. ok, that makes since. still an odd way of doing it but ok.
if you stay with that way than when your host changes the IP, which they will from time to time, than you have to change when they do. no getting around that.
and this has nothing to do with apache.
Why not to use something like
http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html
to hide that ugly ip and store the webpages also in your own server?

Hey, Since you said this may be helpful to someone else, I just thought i'd post my solution to the problem, I called my ISP, and they provided me with a static i.p. address. It never changes, and they did it for a 1 time charge of 10 dollars, and an additional 10 dollars onto my internet bill per month.
