View Full Version : School website.
So my school district is completely screwing my teachers right? And my tech teacher, the one who has let me take independant studies 3 times so far, is the leader of the teachers union. Last year every teacher was pink slipped, all because the school isnt managing the funding correctly. I live in goodrich michigan and if you are familiar with the area, you know that many of the people round here are well off and taxes (school funding) reflect it...so it is clearly the fault of the school and not the community. My teacher asked me to make an informational website for him to let the community know whats going on. The problem is this:
I suck at design.
I can't make things look pretty.
My school blocked my website so I can't work on it from school.
Can anyone look at it?
Maybe give me some pointers, help, etc?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Tham.

Good luck with that. I feel like getting on my soap box and start going off about issues like this but this isn't the place. Best of luck to your teachers and their union.

Yeah i agree with doug, to me the flash looks a bit choppy.
yea...the flash is pretty gumpy I know. But that is the layout I thought of...if someone could throw together something better I would be most grateful. Also, keep in mind that I'm using a program I wrote to allow my teacher to add content via a SSI.
Thanks so much,
Tham.

would it be possible for you to use a nice css menu? I am not saying I dont like your flash... i like the concept of it but, you can come out with some really nice CSS menus which work in more browser types. If you want I can put together a bunch of diffrent menu styles... thats if you are open to changing the menu.... obv. its your cvhoise and I do like what you have done so far. Just throwing out some suggestions.

yea...thats what I was trying to say before. I know the flash is gumpy. So if someone would make a nice looking CSS layout I would for sure use that instead. In my defense though, it looked alot better in my head :-P
Thanks again.
Tham.
can anyone look at the link and help me?

Idea: why don't you use Blogger and then format the page yourself?
You just insert lil bits of code into a layout you make, save it as a template and it can even publish to your own server. Then, you can set up an e-mail address which you give to people who you want to post, then they just write an e-mail, send it to the address and it's posted automatically?
I do that on my site, http://www.ferretisgreat.com
the thing is that I can code what I need just fine...just my design sucks. I have ways to host and whatnot...its just that I can't make things look nice to save me.

On the sliding part of the your header, the graphic which says GEA looks a little low quality, like a gif or low quality jpg.
The site looks good otherwise, I think maybe you should allow the header to run only once and then stop, otherwise it tends to be distracting from the content, in the corner of your eye kind of way.
Great job otherwise:)

 yep, enough to give one of them a home!
Lol yeah I know. And the main website was the first I ever made. Haven't worked on it for a long time since the school blocked it for the proxies I had on it lol. So nothing else looks gumpy? I knopw the graphic is lame, it was just supposed to fill the space, anyone else wanna whip something really simple but better up? it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tham.
