I have a computer here at my house (obviously) and I rarely require the use of a printer. My uncle lives down the street from me, and he has a computer and a printer. I was wondering if it was possible to create a document on my computer, and print it on his? This would also help him out alot, because he is new to computers and could he always has a question about something. PLEASE help me out.

the only way to do this is if you were both on the same network, this would require you to set up cabling using CAT5 UTP and run it from your house to his, then share his printer out, also you have to think about the security of your cable, you dont want somebody saying hey lets cut this thing :) and even though he only lives down the street this can be expensive and would be a lot cheaper just to buy a printer or take a disc to his house :)
Hope this helps

Well, what would it take to be on a network with him? I've heard of doing it before, I just never thought about it.

to network you both need network cards, then you need to run cable from one card to another using a crossover CAT5 cable. (can't be more than 100 meters before you need a repeater) then you need to set up your local network or workgroup, so you would change both workgroups to something like home_group or whatever then you would need to set up the ip addresses to something like this
Your Comp
IP: 10.20.120.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 10.20.120.2
Other Comp
IP: 10.20.120.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 10.20.120.1
after this you open up your command promt from your comp and type
ping 10.20.120.2
if it gets a response your now networked and all that needs to be done is the sharing of folders
Hope this explains well enough, if not just ask
BTW what os are you running and wht is the other OS?

Would probably be easier to do remote access (built into win xp, made easier through windwows messenger, all built in). Lol @ running a cable. Your neighborhood may not be happy about that.

still need to be on the same domain, would be almost impossible if they both dialed up

All of you are completely misleading .... it is possible to print any where in the world aslong as there is a wire, paper and a printer connected.
In order for it to work you have to have a WAN setup correctly, a static IP address and a shared IP.
Not impossible using a TCP IP port for printing. It could be done within a few minutes if you had a WAN setup first and static IP cause if on cable or DSL your ip will change and it will break.

if the computers are connected directly the internet without nat, its quite easy, your just make sure the firewall allows you to connect to each other on the smb port, them you connect to a shared printer on the other pc by typing \\ip\ into an explorer window. The connect.
Anyway thats a short guide, but there are several ways of doing it depending on your setup.
EDIT: I don't know what the smb port is off hand also whatever you do don't give the entire internet access to te smb port, just your dads IP, otherwise you are pratically asking to be hacked.

that is not true. You do not use SMB ports as it is a large security risk.
In XP there is web based printing that is over TCP ports specific to the driver not SMB ports.
FYI there are multiple ports 135,137,445 there are a few others but depend on specific services that are installed.

Yeah, you can see it now...

Oh hi, would you mind if I just dug up your garden to lay some CAT5?
</end joke>
Anyways... how far down the street is he? If it's not far you could maybe look into wireless.
