This is just something that I wish to share with anyone that is considering using a free host.

Just over 12 months ago, I didn't even know what HTML was, so I'm far from being a HTML Einstein. However, I have spent ALOT of time learning how to build sites since then and I have also tried many free web hosts. Especially the most popular ones, like Geocities, Tripod etc...

These accounts are perfect for learners, but everyone gets to the point where they are getting a bit mor 'professional' at building their pages, and require a more professional appearance.

Now, using free hosts that make you have popups on your site is one thing, but using them and inserting code to stop the popups is another. It is VERY unprofessional, and in my opinion, it looks worse than actually having the popup appear, because everyone knows that you have used such code. You just ruin ANY credibility and trust (subconciously), right off the bat.

There is a free web host that I have had alot of faith in. DigitalRice.com (http://www.digitarice.com). I really hope it works out. The guy that runs the show (mike), is doing it out of his pocket, but in the last six I have known about DR there have always been problems.

Then there are 2 gazillian virtual hosts, but the problem with these is that hardly ANY of them offer room to expand and grow. No CGI, no CSS, no this, no that - Unless you pay of course.

You are probably wondering why I am writing this, so I will get to my point. "There is no free ride". There is so substitute for paid web hosting. I just want to try and get as many newbies as I can and make sure that they don't waste countless hours setting up new accounts just to be dissapointed like I have been in the past. Web hosting really is affordable. You can get it for next to nicks. Do yourself a favor and pay a couple of bucks.

P.S. If you are a 13 yo kid, or if you seriously do NOT wish to spend even one shiny dollar on hosting, or if there is any other reason why you wouldn't wont, or can't pay, then the best thing that I have seen is www.f2s.com (http://www.f2s.com) You have room to grow. Nearly all hosting features are included, and it's free with no advertising. The only problem is that the servers can get a bit sluggish at times. Especially with CGI stuff, but like I said - You get what you pay for.

Not to mention that many free hosts will give you the boot for this. Free hosts have to make money to pay for the bandwidth, server cost,
employees, and the thousand other expenses associated with hosting. Their revenue, in many cases, is the popup ad.

There is a very common saying among many hosts..."You get what you pay for." However, I used free hosts, too. The web wouldn't be the same without them. Sometimes, though, your needs dictate the circumstance.
