Okay, I don't really know much about domain names, hosting etc as all the sites I have done so far include my company intranet and other people's sites.
I am about to start up my own site to be hosted by our very own httpcity.com but I would like to know if I register a particular domain name somewhere, can I use that instead of my httpcity one?
Like I said, I know nothing about these things! :o

Most hosts have something about this one their site, if it is allowed, that is. I've seen it many places, but I don;t know if httpcity allows this. My guess would be no:(
Is httpcity a paid host now, if yes they should allow that. Talk to Jason, he could tell you the anwser.
Good Luck,
Paul

I forgot about that. I would go with www.doteasy.com, which allows free hosting w/ a domain registration (although I think it might have to be through them:().

Good Luck,
Paul Yes, httpcity.com is turned to a paid host.
Goldi: Some host that allow domain hosting mention it on their pages. If you are signing up with doteasy.com you have to buy a domain through them. If you already have a domain, you need to pay $35 to transfer it to them (or free if you refer 2 people to them).
Netfirms.com also offers free domain hosting (and you can transfer it to them for free).
If you want to look for more host that allow domain hosting, search through www.freewebspace.net

Thanks for all the help guys. I haven't made up my mind yet but as I am yet to buy a domain name I might go with doteasy.com.
Cheers! ;)

You could also register a name somewhere else and host it on www.freeservers.com

I think you should follow the c9 rule: If you want good, then pay for it, if it is for a company then they won't care about £50 a year, just have them pay for it. To have no banner, reliable hosting go with oneandone, 2.50 a month. They are good.

don't forget: you could also go with some registrar that offers domain redirection.
E.g., i went with DirectNIC for $15/year and got my domain (www.transmothra.com - whew! luckily it wasn't already taken!), then used them (DirectNIC) to point it to my old Geo$h!tt!es site. People could then type in www.transmothra.com and get www.geocities.com/transmothra. As an added bonus (with a drawback; more on that later), the URL in the browser was www.transmothra.com, not www.geocities.com/freehostingloser. They used a single frame to hide my true identity. The drawback being, of course, that every page on my site, being located within this single frame, was www.transmothra.com - so nobody could bookmark my actual pages separately.
i've since gone with their bannerless (read: no frills) hosting for another $15/year.
No, i don't work for them. i wish i did!

Imho, when registering domains, I don't believe in paying more than I should for the same service as there are lots of domain registrars and resellers about. :)
Personally, I now register domains at godaddy.com at $8.95 per yr or if I have 2 domains I'd like to register, I used stargateinc.com at $8 per domain.
After that, you can always have your domains pointed to some free webspace. :)
