I'm interested in trying out Linux, but I don't want to partition my drive etc so I can do a dual-computer. My friend mentioned a Linux distribution that you could boot off a CD (or maybe DVD-CD) but he wasn't sure if it would boot from a Macintosh, nor did he remember the name.
Does anybody know of one that would?
google "Knoppix" it is a cd bootable linux OS and has a really impressive GUI

Ubuntu does have a PowerPC live version.
Also go to here: http://distrowatch.com/search.php and in the search area select "Live CD" for the distro category and "powerpc" for the architecture. Distrowatch is a great site and should have information on pretty much every active distro.

Yeah -- a friend of mine ordered 2 Ubuntu cds and gave me one because I wanted to setup a Kubuntu environment...but I couldn't be bothered to download Kubuntu -- I have CentOs on a small hd in my comp, but I only like it for servers so I don't use it -- I need to find time to install a different distro on it.
So apparently you can get a 2-cd Ubuntu book for free or something.

That is true. You can get free CD's with the ShipIt service. I have tried it. Excellent. They do, however, not send the Kubuntu liveCD for free.
https://shipit.ubuntu.com/myrequest <-- You can order free cd's there.
Why did my ShipIt get blanked out?

Ubuntu -- Linux for humans.
I tried and got a few cds from ShipIt(Took 3 weeks) and it works great...only thing is that my optical mouse doesn't work with it ;)

I am using GIGABYTE GK-6PB OpticalMouse and not sure why it doesn't work.

I wonder if a Linux live cd will boot on an intel based mac...
People are already trying to dual boot with win xp on the intel based macs.

Yes I heard. Well, you *can* actually get XP on a non-Intel-based Mac, you know. This guy did it once. He had to custom build a Linux background system to make XP run on the Mac.
Hang on, Linux -> XP @ Mac.... :shady:
Linux should never get used in such a way..
