Hi guys,

I'm currently running through a redux of my homepage and wondering what you reckon of the new layout for the homepage:

That's not bad. The colors are weird but that's a personal preference I guess... I'm just not used to seeing those colors together.

I must say tho that the menu and hover are hard to read. Seems a bit too pale and don't really match the rest of the color scheme. I'm not sure what color you could use but... or maybe just a darker shade of grey.

Hope this helps... and well done with the all css layout ;)

yeah - i know what you mean about the <a> colours - they're quite sharp here on my LCD at work... i think i need to jigger them back home on my CRT (its nice being able to play with more than one VGA/monitor setup for design work)

as for the other colours - i played around a fair bit on them to get the "feel" i'm after...

and the css :D took a lot of headbashing, quite a bit of help from Aero, and more headbashing when I broke his CSS example... learnt some tricks though...

thanks Karrine :)

I really like this!!! I love the colour combinations and how neatly organised it looks. ^_^

All that I don't like is the colour on visited links, and the fact that the menu at the left has no background/border whatsoever while using 'hr'. Try dividing it with categories rather than with lines, or give it a background. Or leave the lines blank.

Also, the the 'latest journal entries'- why is it that the text doesn't reach all the way to the right? (I'm using Firefox) Could it be my resolution? 1280x1024....

Nice work Stuart, only think I could possibly say would be the colour distinction between certain elements. I think the contrast between your text and background colour isn't enough to be correctly distinguished, your text could maybe be a bit darker to emphasis it more.

Everything else looks good though :D

thanks Joe - yeah, you're probably right about the text (and Karinne and Sadil as well)... are you talking about the headings and links? or the main content as well (the white text)?

Sadil - I was getting problems with the elements on the right pushing a false margin on the journal content, which would suddenly get wider once you got about halfway down - so I decided to make it uniform... I might try and rejigger it a bit to get rid of that blank space.

thanks for all the comments though

how does it look now?

(you may have to use <ctrl>+F5 to clear the cached page)

Simple and working, way i like all webpages shoud be.
If the links will be replaced, kinda nothing to shout after.
Good Job.

My first principle on any design, whether its visual or back-end, is KISKIS - Keep It Simple, Keep It Sweet :)

I think the links, headings, and dates should be made a bit darker in colour.

I too find the colours a bit funky, it is just the white text that throws it off I think. You need a lighter background, for some black text. Or, a really dark shade of green for your text perhaps?

Background for your menu would be nice, and... oh. Looks like it validates =)
