How you decode something depends on the type of code. Some are letter substitution, some are alphanumeric, some are word-governed, some use images in place of letters. You don't necessarily need to go on-line to find practice at some forms of cryptography. Crossword puzzles, fill-it-ins and word searches are forms of cryptography. Those you can get just about anywhere.
www.puzzability.com has daily and weekly puzzles that are good practice.
Watching shows like Wheel of Fortune are good practice.
Playing Hangman is good practice.
The most important thing a cryptographer has to know/learn is how to recognize word patterns. There are only 26 letters and 10 numbers, if you count 0 as a number. That's 36 choices, but the possibilities are almost endless. You need to know how words fit together in sentences and how the letters fit into the words. The most common letters in the English language are E, T, S, R, N.
<Shrug> I like doing puzzles.
