help with local test server on XP

i'm running [either] UniformServer || Virtrigo Server || XAMPP (latest of each, all WAMPs). i can't access localhost. i get:
error '8002801c'

Error accessing the OLE registry.

/iisHelp/common/500-100.asp, line 17
i've tried outright disabling XP's and McAfee's firewalls, and have set both to allow each program. i tried opening port 80. i'm making sure only one server is running at a time. nothing works. suggestions?

Couple questions.....

have you verified that IIS is completely disabled or uninstalled completely?

have you tried JUST running IIS to make sure it works with that and then try others?

XAMMP should be all you need. It uses apache. It doesn't run too well with other WAMP packages installed. Last time I checked XAMMP doesn't run ASP unless you get the add on not sure.
