Is there such a thing as a free host that doesn't require you to almost sell your soul just to get about 10 Mb worth of web space? I would like to make a decent personal site, but I hate ads of any kind. Would I just be better buying my own server almost?
Ok, to all that need free hosting, can you people just spend 5 minutes using the search function. There is a new post on free hosting almost every day and they all get the same old anwsers. This is just a waste of bandwidth for BR. I know you are new but I just can't stand these same old posts about free hosting. If you don't want ads you should buy a paid package, these start as little as $5 a month.
Good Luck,
Paul

yeah, DenCity ain't half bad, although i personally don't care for their general layout. You also can't count on an image coming thru if you're remotely calling it up on other pages (say, for banners, etc.) And they had massive FTP problems there for a while. Hell, i haven't been back, but they were all right. Maybe better than f2s.com even (doubt it, tho').

Yeah these are very good but you know that eventually they will start displaying banners or will make you pay for your hosting.

yeah. already f2s.com is showing signs of death, what with its [practically] 50% uptime.

I used to have my site on Go.com's server before it went down. Why do all the good server's have to fall?

PLEASE NOTE: The new webservers are currently experimental.
Only signup now if you do not mind lots of downtime!

me too. I had a site hosted there once and the only thing they put on my page was a small button at the bottom that said 'dencity'

Just make sure that you backup everything that you upload to your own hard drive. That is what a lot of people hadn't done when HTTP City was hacked into and lost all kinds of stuff.

That's only half the problem with loosing your site. THink of all the time you spend in promoting and then one day the site just goes down. I know people that managed to get around 10,000 unique hits a day and then the servers were closed down. Very sad.
Good Luck,
Paul

yeh my site was hacked. When it was on Freeservers. Someone hacked it and changed my password and hyperlinked all the pages to his/her own site.
I had a backup, the thing that hurt was I lost all my rankings in yahoo, altavista and hotbot which was my main source of traffic.
I couldn't contact Freeservers, because of course, to contact them, you need to login
